Ophiopogon japonicus forms neat tufts of slender, grass-like foliage and slowly spreads to create a soft, dense groundcover. In mid-summer it produces delicate white to pale lilac blooms, followed by small navy berries. This evergreen perennial is a versatile choice for edging paths, planting between pavers, or adding texture to shaded garden spaces, and is especially popular in Japanese-style plantings.
Autumn/Spring
Grows well in deep shade and part shade and full sun. Performs well in in soils that are sandy, loam or clay based. Water regularly until established performs best with occasional watering in dry periods. Cut back old foliage in late winter to maintain appearance. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring.
