Casuarina glauca ‘Cousin It’ is a unique, low-growing Australian native with dense, cascading deep green foliage. Its mounding habit makes it ideal for covering embankments, hiding garden eyesores, or spilling over pots and walls. A tough and versatile groundcover that also helps suppress weeds, it adds texture and interest to any garden setting.
This adaptable plant grows well in most soils, from sand to light clay but performs best in slightly acidic, moist well-drained conditions. While it tolerates dry, waterlogged, coastal, and light frost conditions, it thrives with regular watering during warmer months, though little water is needed in cooler seasons once established. Use a wetting agent in hot weather to help retain moisture, and fertilise in spring with a slow-release native fertiliser. Pruning is rarely needed, but light trimming will help maintain a tidy shape and control spread.
