Deep purple, almost black buds unfurl into rich, velvety purple double blooms with an old-fashioned charm and an intense clove fragrance. The exotic flowers are set against dark green foliage with smoky, dusky undertones. Remarkably clean and highly disease-resistant for a rose of such unique colour.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water newly planted roses daily during their first season. Once established (after a year), two deep soaks per week during warm weather will keep them thriving. Apply a soil wetter in spring and again in mid-summer to improve water penetration. Feed every four weeks from late April to early May with a quality rose fertiliser. Prune in winter to encourage healthy new growth, and follow with a lime sulphur spray to help prevent fungal disease. Apply mulch to retain moisture, keeping it clear of the base of the plant.
