A named cultivar that produces a prolific crop of large, mahogany-brown nuts with excellent flavour. The sweet, good-quality nuts can be enjoyed fresh or used in cooking, roasting, blanching or pureeing. Hazelnuts are naturally high in protein and make a delicious, versatile addition to the home orchard
Cosford
Hazelnuts grow best in a sheltered spot, protected from hot winds and shaded from harsh afternoon sun. They prefer well-drained, low-nutrient soil as too much fertility leads to excess leaf growth and fewer nuts. Prune in winter to maintain an open shape by removing around a third of the oldest branches.
