The Williams pear is a widely grown early-season variety used for fresh eating, stewing, preserving, drying and juice. Fruit ripens from January to February and is large, sweet and yellow/green with a smooth texture, produces attractive white blossoms in spring.

Plant in full sun or light shade. Tolerates clay soils but prefers well-drained, fertile ground. Mulch to retain moisture. Fertilise in spring. Prune in winter to shape young trees; mature trees need minimal pruning. Begins fruiting after 3–5 years
