One of the best known Japanese plums, producing large, rounded fruit with purplish/crimson skin and yellow flesh tinged with red near the skin. The flavour is mildly sweet with a hint of tartness. Ideal for eating fresh, stewing, or making jam. Ripens mid-summer to early autumn. Also serves as a good pollinator for other Japanese plums.
Partially self-fertile. Cross pollinates with Mariposa/Satsuma.
Choose a full sun position, protected from strong winds. Feed with fertiliser in spring and summer, and use liquid fertiliser during fruiting for an extra boost. Prune after fruiting in summer to maintain size and shape, removing dead, diseased, or inward-growing branches.
